What to Expect from your First Class

“In 10 sessions you will feel a difference. In 20, you will see a difference. And in 30, you will have a whole new body.”

-Joseph H. Pilates

Pilates caters to everyone, from beginner to advanced. A typical Pilates workout includes a number of exercises and stretches. Each exercise is performed with attention to proper breathing techniques and abdominal muscle control. It improves flexibility, strength, balance and body awareness. Pilates is utilized world wide by celebrities, professional athletes, back country enthusiests, and everyone in betweeen to make them functionally stronger, better balanced.

The beauty of Pilates is that all you need to show up to class with is a pair of sticky socks, a water bottle, a towel and be ready to find your body in a whole new way.

We really want everyone to be working out to their best ability and using the proper muscles for each exercise that is why our max number of participants per class is 6 and sometimes 4. This is one way that makes our studio exceptional.

A Mat class

will be an hour long class, done on a pilates mat which is thicker than a yoga mat so when we do some of the moves it is more comfortable on your spine.  We are STOTT PILATES® trained and certified instructors so we guide you through the pilates 5 basic principles for good alignment which allow for your stability muscles to work easier.  These are muscles that we shouldn't feel too much if they are working right and in many exercises classes they are left behind for the big muscles.  After a class you should feel like you had a workout but you also feel stretched and refreshed. Many people often feel that they didn't do enough to be sore but are aware of different muscles the next day.

A Reformer class

is a wonderful class and it might end up being your essential class for the week. A reformer is a spring resistance system that allows you to work your legs, your arms, your abs, your everything in all sorts of positions. Exercises can be made extremely difficult or much easier dependent on your skills and strengths.  It is not something you can explain it is something you must experience.  Although to get the most out of a class it is essential to do a Reformer Basics run through, so you know how to set up the machine for your own body and make a class go smoother. Also we highly suggest that you do a private session or a couple sessions of Mat classes to get the basics of pilates under your belt. It is also recommended to wear sticky socks to help your grip on the equipment

The Stability Chair

is a small piece of equipment with big attitude. At first there does't seem to be much to it but watch out!  There are big challenges and small but amazing challenges to your stability system and you will work your body in a way that no other machine has done before.  It is essential to wear grippy socks to help you maintain good control on the stability chair.

Small Equipment

is used in each class to help or make an exercise much more difficult. We use stability balls in all different sizes, we use resistance bands, rotational discs, jump boards, stability cushions, spinal supporters, spinal correctors, pilates edges, reformer boxes, stability barrels, arc barrels and much more.  All of this equipment can change an exercise so slightly but can make a big difference in what muscle you are working or feeling.  We have a large variety of props and our instructors are skilled at testing you with them.
